For landings above 1,100 m above sea level, mountain landing training is mandatory in Switzerland. This training is regulated by national law and enjoys a good reputation far beyond national borders.
The training includes landings on Switzerland's 40 official mountain landing sites in high mountains up to 4200 m above sea level and includes a total of at least 200 landings in the mountains. Of these, 50 landings must be carried out up to 2000 m above sea level and 150 landings on the official mountain landing sites. At least 20 different locations must be flown to, 10 of which are over 2700 m above sea level. In order to complete the training, you need a total experience of at least 100 hours of flight.
Since the performance of helicopters with piston engines is not sufficient at high altitudes, landings above 2000m and thus the majority of mountain landing training are completed with a helicopter with a turbine. The 50 landings up to 2000 m above sea level can be completed with a helicopter with a piston engine.
The training ends with a skill test flight and then entitles you to carry out landings in the mountains.
