Supplying of mountain huts
Virtually all the huts and mountain shelters operated by the Swiss Alpine Club (SAC) are supplied by helicopter. This allows food, drink, and other items to reach even the most remote mountain locations in a matter of minutes. The return leg of the journey can then be used to transport accumulated waste back down into the valley.
Assembly work
Helicopters are often indispensable for the construction and inspection of ski lifts, cable-car lines and mountain railways, or the installation of electricity pylons and radio transmission masts.
Logging and special forestry services
Helicopters supply important services in many areas of forestry work. Felled trees can be quickly and safely carried away from forests and delicate conservation areas by lifting them straight out in sections, thereby doing away with the need to build roads through the forest or rely on the installation of cumbersome cranes and hoists.
Hauling cables
Helicopters are used when electricity cables have to be spanned across valleys and ravines. A nylon auxiliary rope is pulled over the completed high-tension pylons, allowing the main cable to be hauled up from the ground and on to the pylons.
